Change of the Government - EPP Newsletter
The intention to change the government halfway through a successful EU Presidency would not only be an unwise decision but would also seriously damage the interests of the Czech Republic and the European Union as a whole as well as deepening the current political crisis.

The government has won respect from all of its international partners, particularly for the way in which it dealt with both the gas and economic crisis. Given the motto we so often hear from our President Václav Klaus, “Protecting the national interests is our priority”, I myself as a representative for my fellow citizens find this intention unacceptable. It is very difficult to explain to my colleagues of the biggest political group in the European Parliament, the EPP-ED Group, the exact benefits of recent actions taken by our President and the Opposition. Therefore, I am appealing not only to our President but also to my colleagues politicians who were democratically chosen by the Czech citizens to represent their common interests and ensure that the current government finishes our first EU Presidency on 30 June 2009.
